Serving Douglas Park, Okeechobee Fl

Roughly eight-in-ten whites (82%) report owning a desktop or laptop computer, compared with 58% of blacks and 57% of Hispanics. There are also substantial racial and ethnic differences in broadband adoption, with whites being more likely than either blacks or Hispanics to report having a broadband connection at home. Nonprofits, and the wide range of human, social, cultural, and artistic services they provide, can be critical to anchoring communities and stabilizing neighborhoods. When they’re invested in the place in which they’re located, nonprofits become important hubs that create opportunities for those they serve; they lift up voices, and build placed-based power. For these groups to be successful in meeting their missions, they must be resilient themselves.

Technology Approach By Donating Computers and Training.

The need for Technology in Improvise areas.

Black and Hispanic adults remain less likely than whites to say they own a traditional computer or have high speed internet at home, according to a Pew Research Center survey conducted in early 2019. The Technology Outreach Center is planning on buying a community property to house over 50 computers to be accessed by all residents in Douglas Park. We will also provide other services such as fashion shows, art and craft training, employment training once the site is located and the building is imposed on the site.

The Technology Outreach Center provides used and refurbished computers to needy Douglas Park residents who are in need of internet services. Once established we hope to give residents small stipends as well.
